The Growing Population of Islam
Current PopulationAs of 2010, there are an estimated 1.6 billion Muslims in the world. This is 23% of people worldwide. Islam has the second highest population, behind Christianity in the world. Islam's growth can be given in part to the fact that they are a generally younger population.
The highest areas of Muslims are in the Middle East-North Africa area and the Asia-Pacific region. |
Reasons for GrowthThe Pew Research Center reports that Muslim women have on average 3.1 children (compared to Christian women's average of 2.7) and have a significantly younger median age of 23, which is 7 years younger than the median age of major non-Muslim religions.
